In 2024 South Australia welcomes riders from across the nation as we gather to compete in the Tom Quilty Gold Cup set in the stunning landscape of Wirinna on the South Coast.
Where did “The Quilty” as it is referred to by those in the endurance scene call it all start? In 1966 Williams gathered support for a 24-hour, 100-mile (160-kilometre) ride, which became known as the Quilty Cup after Williams’ friend, cattleman Tom Quilty, donated $1000 for the first prize – a gold cup.
The Quilty became the annual national championships event, and today attracts hundreds of competitors.
The terrain is challenging, including trails, bush tracks, and open countryside. Not forgetting the magnificent but relentless hills that rise from the ocean providing spectacular views. They are not for the faint-hearted!
The Tom Quilty Cup serves not only as a test of physical endurance but also emphasizes the bond between the rider and their horse. It is a significant event in the endurance riding community, attracting experienced riders and enthusiasts alike. The cup holds cultural and historical importance, reflecting the spirit of adventure and horsemanship in Australia.
The Tom Quilty 2024 Organising Committee is working tirelessly and is leaving nothing to chance. The event promises to be a fabulous celebration of endurance riding, our horses, making new friends and meeting old friends. The event is supported by our generous sponsors who understand the significance of what the competitors prepare and train for all year. TQ 2024 is shaping up to be a challenging but exhilarating ride and SAERA is looking forward to showcasing what SA Endurance has to offer.
Not to be missed mark this one in RED PEN in your diaries!
